Hathor Labs is proud to release our 2021 roadmap, covering ongoing and planned Hathor Network developments this year.

2021 has already been a big year for us, and with the second quarter quickly approaching, we believe this is the perfect time to share our plans for the rest of the year with all of you.

This roadmap should be considered a snapshot of the world and our plans as they appear today. The space that we work in changes incredibly fast, and so must we.

The next update to our roadmap shall come out towards the end of Q2.

Our roadmap is highly dynamic, as priorities may be switched around, and items can be replaced with new ones as we adapt to changes in the market and are meant to communicate the vision and updates of Hathor Network as an ecosystem.

Let’s kick it off by expanding on selected items under each section.

Q1 — Infrastructure and Tools

Infrastructure and developer tools play a crucial role in creating a vibrant and living ecosystem, where builders across the world can bring their ideas to fruition on top of Hathor.

As Nano Contracts are perhaps the most highly anticipated feature among our community, this quarter marks the Hathor Network ecosystem's beginning and paves the way for other features.

Under Marcelo's lead, the core development team has already started working on nano contracts design from both a technical and user experience perspective, identifying what we believe to be the optimal route forward for this important piece of our architecture.

We also want to involve our community of developers in this process, and we’ll be setting up a Discord channel on our server to get your input and feedback on the proposed solutions as they progress.

We’ll be covering the development of nano contracts in much detail throughout the year, and will make sure to keep everyone updated on the development.

At Hathor Labs, we want to encourage development on the network, and we aim to assist builders in any way we can, be it business, architecture, or development-related support.

One of the ways we see ourselves helping out is through our upcoming grants program, which we’ll launch towards the end of March.

In addition to the Q1 roadmap items, the beginning of 2021 marked an important change for Hathor Labs, with Marcelo and Yan swapping roles in preparation for the strategic work and complex technical requirements that lie ahead this year. Read the details on that here.

We’re also working hard on team expansion to be able to support our expected growth this year. We’re planning to onboard new hires for various roles and functions this year and will announce these as and when they happen.

Q2 — Road to Nano Contracts

The second quarter is when 2021 really begins for Hathor. Q2 could turn out to be the prototypes' season, as several new features and initial product launches are scheduled for this part of the year.

We’ll see the initial implementation of nano contracts during this period as we begin to unleash the true potential of our easy tokenization capabilities. Being able to add programmability to your custom token by simply configuring a few parameters in a built-in nano contract is an entirely new approach to smart contracting not seen in any other layer ones.

Explorer redesign is another important item for both the community as well as our enterprise partners. We plan to revamp the design and UX as well as add new functionalities.

The same goes for our website, which is finally getting a much-needed makeover with less jargon and more straight-to-the-point content together with a resource center.

As we envision a blockchain-enabled future where the biggest networks are integrated and complement each other feature-wise, the interoperability workgroup has been kicked off internally already with other chains' support and shall be announced soon.

We’re also starting research on DeFi and NFTs, which we see as both crucial and super exciting pieces of any layer of one network’s product offering.

Towards the end of Q2, we’ll also see the first products built on top of Hathor Network by partners that received the first grants.

Be on the lookout for separate articles covering these topics throughout the year.

Q3 — New Features

We want to introduce a lot of cool new stuff during these months while realizing that coordinating so many moving parts and complex technical solutions being built makes it difficult to pinpoint any exact release dates.

That said, we expect to improve upon Nano Contracts capabilities and make them live for everyone around this time, accessible through a UI, and ready to interact with your custom token, even if only in an early stage version.

This is when we expect the Nano Contracts to become available for anyone to play around with.

Once we’re happy with the way nano contracts are progressing, design work on side-DAGs is next up. Side-DAGs are an important piece of our architecture and will allow the network to scale for the future, which we believe will require high throughput capabilities.

You should also expect to see the first implementation of cross-chain interoperability with other networks in this Q3.

Also, in this quarter, we aim to have non-fungible token support implemented on Hathor Network. We see massive opportunities in this area and want to encourage both applications and games utilizing NFTs, on Hathor.

Q4+ Other improvements

The plus sign stands for ‘onwards’. We aim to complete these items towards the end of the year, although realistically, we expect some of them to cross over into 2022 before they are finished.

In the last quarter of the year, we expect to see the first side-DAGs interacting with the main chain, either initiated by a third party building on the network or as a private chain implementation prototype. We should also see more cross-chain action happening as integration work with other networks progresses, further adding to the list of potential use cases made possible on Hathor.

We plan to integrate oracles with the nano contracts, both native, built-in oracles and external ones. We want to keep our platform as open as possible and let users choose which oracle they prefer to use with their application. Nano contracts will be extremely light in terms of computational power required to run them, and using them together with data from an external oracle will be a powerful combination.

Towards the end of the year, we also plan to increase our efforts towards the possibilities that lie within enterprise blockchain solutions and security tokens. It’s still early days for STOs, but we see great potential ahead.

A Vision and the Tools for building an ecosystem

Our Roadmap covers the tools and infrastructure for builders to bring their ideas to life using Hathor Network.

Hathor plans in 2021 to continuously support initiatives such as HTRFDT , which aims to build essential and much-needed infrastructure on top of Hathor.

HTRFDT’s work has full and direct support from Hathor Labs, and this collaboration is a great example of what can be achieved through grants.

Keep a close eye on their development as they launch public versions of their HathorSwap DEX and HathorChromeExtension, among other tools.

Before we wrap things up, we would like to shout-out to the Cathor community to create Hathor’s first community coin and support the ecosystem.

We’re also looking to support and inspire ecosystem growth through community events such as hackathons and online meetups.

About Hathor Network

Hathor Network is a PoW-based novel distributed ledger architecture using both DAG and blockchain data structures intertwined. Built having in mind scalability, usability, and decentralization, our network uses its unique design to solve significant bottlenecks preventing the broad adoption of the technology.

Hathor Network has been live on mainnet since January 2020, experiencing exponential growth in the number of custom tokens, active wallets, and mining hashrate.
